We're so glad you're here! We've been transforming spaces together for the past five years and slowly renovating our own 1950's home. Join us as we create a home we love!

Hi, we're Jake and Sarah

Back in the fall, we had to tear down our pool fence to install our retaining wall, per our Yardzen Plans. We love having designated areas in our yard. So, we decided to put a fence back up! Instead of ordering one prebuilt, we wanted to make our DIY backyard fence from scratch. Lets do it!

We decided to install this in the concrete because I did NOT want to rip up my beautiful, new lawn! First, we installed bases into the concrete. We placed them and then used a concrete bit to drill into the ground, then we secured the bases to the ground!

To secure our 4×4’s, we screwed them into the brackets. We decided to cut the posts after installing them because the ground isn’t level – but we wanted the posts to be!

Then, we installed horizontal framing pieces (like we did for our DIY trash shed) with brackets and 2×4’s. After that, we built a little gate using this easy gate kit!

Next up, we installed all the pickets with our brad nailer. We used a level and our circular saw to cut the pickets down to the height we wanted. The plan is to use the other half of these pickets for our AC surround we’re building soon!

And there you have it!

This DIY fence was the perfect way to create separate zones in our yard and also, to keep the pool closed off for little ones.
