We're so glad you're here! We've been transforming spaces together for the past five years and slowly renovating our own 1950's home. Join us as we create a home we love!

Hi, we're Jake and Sarah

Now that our bedroom makeover is done, it’s time to give some love to our living room! We’ve had the same IKEA light in our living room since we moved in 5-6 years ago. Our living room definitely doesn’t get enough light and it just gets so dark at night. We decided to replace it with a chandelier that has 5 or 6 lights. It’s going to be so much better!

This light was just a lamp cord hanging on j-hook hanging from the ceiling. So we needed to add some reinforcement between beams so we could install a j-box!

The chandelier we chose is amazing. It’s called the Westchase chandelier from Shades of Light. They have a couple different sizes and colors.

To make some reinforcement between the beams of our ceiling, I grabbed a 1×8 piece of wood and made a hole in the center of it with our hole saw attachment that would fit the chandelier mount.

I have a tip for tricky measurements!

If you need to find center of a board that isn’t just an easy math equation, here’s how you do it. My board was 7 3/16″ deep. Instead of needing to find half of that, I put my tape measure at an angle until it hit a whole number. So for mine I went to 8 inches. Then, half way is the center! You do the same thing going long ways and you can find the middle of your board easily!

Then I stained the board so it would match the beams in the living room and it was a pretty good match with just 2 coats!

I added pocket holes to the back side of the board so we would be able to mount it without seeing any screws with this pocket hole jig. Pocket holes are such an awesome DIY tidbit of knowledge! I secured my board to the beams and then installed the chandelier and WOW I love it.

It’s the perfect fit! If you have an open beam ceiling like we do, let me know if you try this!
