We’ve wanted to plant a hedge in our yard for a while now. Our kitchen window looks right into our neighbor’s window and we wanted a little more privacy.
Q: Curious as to how much each one of those plants is? And since you are planting at different times, will they grow/look uneven?
A local nursery was running a special on this particular plant this month: 10 5-gallon Indian Laurels for $1,000 (plants, delivery, and installation.) Since this plant was the exact same hedge that our design from Yardzen called for, we went ahead and booked it.
I talked to three different landscapers about this, and none of them seemed particularly concerned about growing uneven. These trees are really easy to manipulate into lots of different looks/shapes. The greenery will soon disguise the trunks completely, so even if the trunks are slightly larger on this section, the difference shouldn’t be visible. Despite their nonchalance about it, my goal is still to get the other 40 trees in within the next four months.
Q: How far apart are you planting them?
We decided to have them planted 2.5′ off of the fence so that Jake can fit behind the trees to maintain them. We didn’t want to have to ask our neighbors to go into their yard to cut them. Each tree is also planted 2.5″ apart.
Q: I’m a SD local looking to do the same thing in my back yard. Mind if I ask where did you get them?
We purchased them from a local nursery called Standard Design Group. Just a heads up, the product and installation were both high quality, but they didn’t have the best communication for the two weeks between purchasing and installing.
