Here’s the final reveal of my parents’ bedroom makeover!
My mom has been asking me to give her room a refresh for months now. I finally had some free time this week and it was so fun to work on this project!
My mom felt like their room just wasn’t put together. She wanted it to feel a little bit more sophisticated and elevated. To make it feel a little less casual, I started out by picking out furniture with some darker wood tones and structured upholstery. I chose a huge rug with a big diamond pattern and some luxe sheets with a little bit of a champagne sheen. With those changes, the room already looked so much more mature.
To contrast against the structured pattern of the rug, we installed a custom art piece from a Suminagashi artist above the bed. This is a Japanese ink marbling technique that dates back to the 12th century! The artist designed the ink patterns around my parents’ story. She calls these her “journey pieces” and is open for commissions here.
We also swapped out their older tropical fan for a more modern design. The blades are real wood and such a beautiful finishing touch. You can read about how we changed out the fan here!
We finished up the room with some shelving from Nathan James. We got two of the Theo bookshelves in nutmeg/black and placed them side by side.
I thrifted all of the books on the shelves – I love doing this! We just took off all the covers and looked for matching colors. All the other decor is sourced from a local shop called Adobe!
