I call this my 3-minute mocha because it only takes me three minutes to make – and three minutes to drink. It’s that delicious! I made it for the first time two months ago, and I haven’t missed a day since. It’s the perfect sweet (but not-too-sweet) afternoon pick-me-up. It has some cane sugar, but hey, if it keeps me away from candy…that’s a win in my book.
Vanilla Syrup
At the bottom of a 16oz glass, I add two pumps of Monin organic vanilla syrup. I love that this syrup is made without any artificial ingredients (it’s just organic cane sugar, water, organic vanilla flavor, and citric acid) and stored in a glass bottle. We use it so often that we bought this pump for the top! I’m super picky about what I leave out on my countertops, but we use this so much that we just keep it out. I even have my eye on this vintage vanilla syrup dispenser on Ebay to switch to eventually. Cool, right?!
Cacao Powder
Next I add a heaping teaspoon of cacao powder (not cocoa powder…confusing, I know). I order this one from Amazon that’s 100% organic and pure cacao. I guess it’s a “superfood,” but that’s just a bonus in my book because it adds the most rich, velvety, deep chocolate flavor!
Espresso
Then I pull a shot of Ironsmith espresso with my Breville and add it directly to my syrup and powder mixture, and stir until combined. I add ice at this point and then top it off with unsweetened, unflavored almond milk so that the vanilla and cacao can really shine. A glass straw is the final touch.
I’m usually not much of a chocolate person but this drink has me totally hooked. Coffee people, you’ll have to try this and let me know what you think!
