wall treatment:

wainscoting calculator
For wainscoting, cut stiles (the vertical boards) to proper length with a mitre saw. Attach corner stile first, use a brad nailer to secure. Secure remaining stiles, using a level as you install each piece. The wainscoting calculator will tell you the exact width to leave between each stile. Fill nail holes with wood filler, let dry, and sand excess. Caulk seems between stiles and the wall. After the caulk dries, you’re ready for paint!

flooring FAQs:

How long will the peel-n-stick flooring last?

Not forever. Peel-n-stick vinyl is a temporary solution for a budget-friendly project. I’d recommend keeping an extra box of tiles in the garage so you can replace individual tiles as needed.

Can you install directly over tile?

Yes! We installed them directly over ceramic, textured tile. We overlapped the grout rather than leaving the peel-n-stick tile seams on the grout. (See my highlight for a visual). I didn’t want the tiles to concave in because of the grout seems.

What if I’m installing peel-n-stick over plywood subfloor?

You’ll need to waterproof the plywood. Here is a list of supplies you’ll need:
floor patch for the seems between plywood sheets
tile primer
chalk line

What about working around the toilet?

We used sheets of printer paper and a pencil to template the cuts, and then used a box cutter to cut the vinyl tiles. Disclaimer- this requires some patience. Get a good podcast going!

Where can I find peel-n-stick tile?

Check out Floorpops, Lowe’s, Amazon, Home Depot, and Etsy!
Etsy has hundreds of unique peel-n-stick tile options if you want to find something more “one-of-a-kind.”

Thanks for reading about this laundry room and powder room makeover!
