Driving over to Utah and Arizona from Southern California makes for an excellent winter road trip. I’m not one to enjoy the desert in the summer!
If you’re driving from Southern California, Mad Greek Cafe in Baker makes for a really good stop on the way. They have great mediterranean food!
Utah
Kanab, Utah
The the landscape shifts from green and brown to a deep red color, you know you’re getting close to Utah. We stayed in the charming little town of Kanab, Utah, about a 45 minute drive outside of Zion. The red rock is surrounding Kanab is beautiful and it has a cute little downtown area with a coffeeshop and library.
Zion National Park
It’s easy to spend hours here in Zion National Park, exploring trails, hiking to waterfalls, walking through the narrows, searching for deer, or enjoying a hot chocolate in the lodge. This is one of those places that makes you realize just how small you really are.
Arizona
Horseshoe Bend
Horseshoe Bend is located in Page, Arizona, and it’s about an hour and fifteen minute drive. The pictures of this place are amazing, but it is SO much better in person. It almost took my breath away.
Lake Powell
Lake Powell is a good stop on the way back to Utah; it’s only about ten minutes form Horseshoe Bend.
There is such little light pollution, the stars are unreal out here – make sure you take some time to enjoy the night sky!
