Ikea Dresser Flip

Transforming the IKEA Hemnes dresser:


Apart from the wood, everything can be ordered on Amazon! Here’s a list of everything I used for my Ikea dresser flip.

paint
1. Zinsser oil-based primer
2. white latex paint (I’d order 2)
3. seal with satin polyurethane

modern legs (inspired by @angelarosehome)
1. 1×2 pine boards, cut to size
2. nail gun or pocket hole jig & drill
3. champagne mist spray paint

custom handles
1. 1/2” wooden dowels
2. 1/2” copper elbows
3. epoxy

You may need a paintbrush and a roller if you don’t have them already. You will also need a chop saw to make your cuts.

Here’s the original dresser:

Step 1

Remove the drawers and all the hardware.

Step 2

Cut legs to size and install.

Step 3

Cut dowels to size and install in copper elbows with epoxy.

Step 4

Tape off dresser to paint legs and paint pulls. Screw dowels into the drawers with the holes from the original hardware. You’ll use 1 coat of primer, 2 coats paint, 1 coat seal.

I loved doing this Ikea dresser flip. Their furniture is all so user friendly to assemble. There are so many fun and creative ways to make their furniture your own!
