Jake and I wanted to test out our drone before our big trip to Iceland this week! Lake Hodges was near where we were staying for our anniversary weekend, so we figured it would be a good spot to give it a try! I was surprised when we saw this lake.
This spot is right off the 15 at Via Rancho Parkway. Head west and turn left onto Lake Drive.
Lake Hodges is one of the only spots in Southern California where I’ve seen truly fall colors! Seriously – so beautiful. I think it is crazy how you can see all four seasons in just one state! This spot is right off Pomerado Rd off the 15.
Lake Hodges is a reservoir located about 30 miles north of Downtown San Diego – but it’s still technically in San Diego county. This reservoir was built in 1916 – over one hundred years ago. So crazy! It’s main purpose is to be a water source during an emergency situation. However, it is also used to provide electrical power to the grid during high demand times of the day. I think it’s so interesting how a manmade body of water can look so natural and serve so many different purposes.
There are tons of fun outdoor activities to do at Lake Hodges. There are a lot of beautiful hiking trails. People come out here to bird watch, fish, kayak, & windsurf. I never thought it was possible to do all these things within San Diego county.
